After the shocking events in our community, I've realized that I was originally blinded by Hester's severe condemnation and stigma of adultery, and that this made me view her as less of a person. I wish that our community could have a second chance in how we treated her, as I believe that many people (myself included) were so focused on enforcing strict religious and political beliefs that we forgot how to be kind and forgiving towards someone that desperately needed it. Even in all of her toil, Hester was still a hard worker and contributed to the community, and raised Pearl into a beautiful young lady. I only wish that Dimmesdale were still alive so that he and Hester could start the life that they were dreaming of, and in the same way, our community could start a new life of tolerance and forgiveness.
I personally can't believe all of the change that has occurred in our town since my family moved here a few years ago. I feel like many of the members of the Boston community are going to be reflecting on our minister's death, and how truly awful it was. I am completely astonished and shocked that he was Pearl's father all along, and that his sin was the same as Hester Prynne's. But while Hester was punished for years with the public display of her scarlet letter, Dimmesdale suffered his letter in private, and I feel that they both received a punishment that was much too severe. I believe that our community was much too harsh on Hester and a sin that was committed many years ago, and I hope that her new life brings more forgiveness, love, and prosperity than we offered as a community.

I cannot believe the change that has happened in our town! I do believe we were too focused on religion and enforcing laws, but what else is there to focus on? It is so important to know the word of God. I feel very sad for Hester and how unhappy she must be. I hope our town can learn from this and we can move on in a positive way.

I as well think our society was very intolerant. We may have even gotten carried away with our strict religious rule. In some ways you could argue that Boston is no better than Salem as far as acceptance goes. I always felt I was on Hester's side, and though I did not accept her sin I did not value her less as a person. I also hope that Hester's and Pearls life becomes better.

I also agree with this. Our community was by far too harsh upon the sins of Hester and Dimmesdale. Their sin was already years old and it is quite sad we continued to persist with it, as if it wasn't enough punishment. It makes me quite a bit angry over that too. I can only agree because I want our town to grow, I think we should learn from these ungrateful experiences. It is wrong to put people through the hell we did for Hester and Dimmesdale, and because of this in the end the two could not fulfill their dream they had together. Which I think says a lot about how horrible we are as a people. I can only wish this changes in the future and also I hope Hester and Pearl are able to like a happy life despite all that is happened. Which is tough I understand that.

I agree that our community was far too strict on Hester. What she did was wrong, but after a few years, the punishment should have been more than enough. It did not need to be a punishment for life. She already bears the guilt of her actions, and a child who was created by them, which is more than a harsh enough punishment. I never expected either that Dimmsdale would do such a thing, much less die so suddenly. It truly was a blow to our town.
